The School of Engineering is following NBCS wirless recomandations to the letter. That policy can be found at

Rutgers Wireless LAN Policy

This policy covers security and coorindation of wireless channels. Other areas of Rutgers have ignored these polices and have ended up with almost useless wireless system with pratically no secureity.

Wireless should not be used for desktop systems. Wireless is 11 megabits shared networking. Machines plugged into a hard-wired connection get 100 megabits private. Also wirelss does have more security issues.

As of April 2005, Engineering B-wing and D-wing have RUWireless access and C-Wing is in being worked on.

To access these networks you need either an eden or rci account. This is the exact same system used in the student centers and other locations throughout the university. For more information see

RUWireless

If you want to install wireless in any of the following buildings, you must coordinate with Mark Sproul

  • Engineering building (A-B-C-D)
  • Ceramics
  • Fiber Optics
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Biomed Modular
  • Civil Modular
  • Rutcor
Any wireless access points installed without permission will be removed from the network.
