In an effort to make navigating the School of Engineering web pages, ECS has started a
project to centralize web pages for all departments in Engineering. This will consist of
the existing web server, http://coewww.rutgers.edu,
also known as www.engr.rutgers.edu and additional disk space. This web server already
houses much of the existing Engineering web pages.
Objectives
- One web server for all departments
- Enough disk space so that no professor has to worry about content for class work.
- Easy for students to find information about classes.
- Guidance with web design and consistency
- Help with following Rutgers web guidelines
- Provide professors with tools and/or assistance in creating web pages for class content.
- Access: We plan on making the process to update content as easy as possible. Currently
FTP, and telnet access are in place, we hope to make it so the folders can be mounted remotely
for Macs, Windows, or Unix.
Schedule
- The web server already has enough storage to get things started. We will
be ordering more disk space during the spring semester.
- Starting now, all new web pages should go on this server
- By the start of classes fall 2001, all department and class web pages should be moved
to this server.
Getting started
Things will be a little slow at first. The major hurdle is overall
organization of the web site.
That is why I am making the announcement now, so that I can start to get a
feeling for the needs of
the different departments.
