How to access Rutgers Scool of Engineering Servers
Rutgers Engineering provides computer servers for all faculty, staff and students.
These include
- Unix accounts for email and general computation
- Class room machines, both Unix and Windows
- Computational clusters
This document will explain how to access these services.
To remotely access these machines you must use ssh. ssh is secure shell,
it is a secure version of telnet. Information about free version of ssh can be found for
the following systems
In order to access your files for the purpose of uploading our downloading, you need to use
sftp. sftp is "secure FTP". This version uses encryption and is much safer than normal FTP.
ECS only allows ssh or sftp for access to our servers.
These programs are fairly easy to configure. The machine names you need to use are
either engsoft.rutgers.edu or cronos.rutgers.edu depending on where your account is.
